About Us

Company History

Applied Perception was founded in 2001 by graduates of Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute and is focused on developing unmanned vehicle (UxV) related technologies for the military and security markets. Applied Perception specializes in complete robotic system integration with a focus on computer software and sensors, but also encompassing electrical, mechanical, and communication technologies. These systems feature sophisticated perception, planning, and control capabilities to provide robust solutions to customer-driven problems. These components are based on the DoD Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) standard which is the interoperability requirement for all future U.S. DoD unmanned ground and maritime vehicle programs.

Applied Perception has grown from one full-time and one part-time employee in 2001, to a growing company of 22 employees today. We are an engineering-oriented organization with a constant flow of new and interesting problems to solve.

Applied Perception, which is based in Cranberry Township, PA, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Foster-Miller, Inc., a QinetiQ North America (QNA) company, in May 2007. QNA is part of QinetiQ Group plc (LSE: QQ), one of the world’s leading defense and security technology companies.
